02How it recruits
In plain words
The Indian Navy recruits officers and sailors (Agniveers) directly, and civilian staff at Naval Commands and Naval Dockyards through the Indian Naval Civilian Entrance Test (INCET), all via the single joinindiannavy.gov.in portal — there is no separate site for Naval Dockyard or INCET recruitment. Sailor-level entry (Agniveer SSR after 12th, Agniveer MR after 10th) follows the Agnipath scheme, with selection through the Indian Navy Entrance Test, physical fitness test and medical examination. Officer entry runs through INET for Short Service Commission across Executive, Technical and Education branches, and through the 10+2 (B.Tech) Cadet Entry Scheme for Permanent Commission technical officers trained at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala. All applications must be submitted online at the official portal.
Indian Navy recruits mainly through a written competitive examination, or a written examination followed by an interview. Posts recorded here are commonly classified as Group A/B/C.
