The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) recruits staff for Group B (non-gazetted) and Group C posts in ministries, departments and subordinate offices of the Government of India. Its examinations include the Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL) and Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination (CHSL) for clerical and inspector-level posts, the Multi-Tasking Staff Examination (MTS), the GD Constable Examination for the Central Armed Police Forces, the Central Police Organisation Sub-Inspector Examination for Delhi Police and CAPFs, the Junior Engineer Examination, the Stenographer Grade C & D Examination, Selection Posts for department-specific vacancies, the Junior Hindi Translator Examination, the Scientific Assistant Examination for the India Meteorological Department, and the Delhi Police Constable Examination. SSC operates through a headquarters in New Delhi and nine Regional/Sub-Regional Offices that process applications, conduct exams and handle candidate grievances for their assigned states.

SSC recruits mainly through a written competitive examination, or a written examination followed by an interview. Posts recorded here are commonly classified as Group B/C.
