India Post has invited applications for engagement of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) -- Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak -- under GDS Online Engagement Schedule-II, July-2026 (Notification No. 17-12/2026-GDS dated 20 August 2026). Vacancies are notified division-wise across postal circles; the notification states that the exact division-wise vacancy position is published on the GDS Online Engagement portal rather than as one all-India total figure in the notification itself. Candidates must have passed Class 10 (Secondary School Examination) with passing marks in Mathematics and English from a recognised board, and must have studied the local language prescribed for the division applied to, up to Class 10. Age must be 18 to 40 years as on the last date of application, with relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, 10 years for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), 13 years for PwBD+OBC and 15 years for PwBD+SC/ST; no relaxation is given for EWS. There is no written examination -- selection is by a system-generated merit list based on Class 10 marks converted to a percentage. GDS posts are not regular Central Government posts; selected candidates are paid Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) of Rs 12,000-29,380 for BPM and Rs 10,000-24,470 for ABPM/Dak Sevak, plus Dearness Allowance and other GDS-specific benefits, not regular Central Government pay and allowances. Selected BPMs must arrange their own accommodation for the Branch Post Office in the post village. Online One-Time Registration runs from 31 August to 19 September 2026, online application submission and fee payment from 2 to 21 September 2026, and a correction window is open on 23-24 September 2026, all up to 5 PM.
