Candidates must complete Account Creation, Universal Registration (URN), the Common Application Form (CAF) and the Examination Specific Module (including fee payment and choice of examination centre). The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has issued Examination Notice No. 01/2027-GEOL for the Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination, 2027, notified on 2 September 2026, to fill posts in the Geological Survey of India (Ministry of Mines) and the Central Ground Water Board (Ministry of Jal Shakti). The tentative vacancies total 127: 111 in GSI (Geologist Group A - 29, Geophysicist Group A - 0, Chemist Group A - 7, Assistant Geologist Group B - 34, Assistant Geophysicist Group B - 35, Assistant Chemist Group B - 6) and 16 in CGWB (Scientist 'B' Hydrogeology - 5, Scientist 'B' Chemical - 1, Scientist 'B' Geophysics - 1, Assistant Hydrogeologist - 7, Assistant Chemist - 1, Assistant Geophysicist - 1). Candidates must be between 21 and 32 years of age as on 1 January 2027, with age relaxation for Government servants in the corresponding post/department, SC/ST and OBC candidates as per government rules. Minimum educational qualification is a Master's degree in the relevant discipline (Geology/Applied Geology and allied fields for Geologist and Assistant Geologist posts, Physics/Geophysics for Geophysicist posts, Chemistry for Chemist posts, and Hydrogeology/Geology for the CGWB Hydrogeology posts) from a recognised university. The examination fee is Rs. 200, with Female, SC/ST and Persons with Benchmark Disability candidates exempted. Applications must be submitted online only at upsconline.nic.in by 22 September 2026 (18:00 Hours), after completing Account Creation, Universal Registration, the Common Application Form and the Examination Specific Module. The Preliminary Examination will be held on 10 January 2027 and the Main Examination on 19-20 June 2027, at centres including Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati), Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Shimla, followed by a Personality Test/Interview for candidates who qualify the Main Examination. The number of vacancies is tentative and liable to alteration, and appointments will initially be made on a temporary basis.
