Class 12 maths is dominated by calculus, and the board paper rewards method as much as the final answer. Most students who underperform know more than their marks show — the losses come from timing, presentation and untreated Class 11 gaps rather than from not knowing the content.

Where the marks are
Calculus carries the largest share of the paper by some distance, and within it integration is where most marks are gained or lost. Algebra, vectors and three-dimensional geometry follow. Check the current year’s weighting on cbse.gov.in rather than assuming last year’s pattern, and let it set the order of revision.
How the last months should run
- Chapter practice weighted by the paper, heaviest first, while there is still time to repair.
- Then whole papers, timed, one or two a week — more than that leaves no room to work through the mistakes.
- A written error log. Students who keep one stop repeating the same three mistakes; students who do not, repeat them in the board exam.
Re-reading solved examples feels productive and teaches very little. The solution is on the page, so every step looks obvious. Close the book and attempt it cold — that is the only honest test of whether a chapter is ready.
My child knows the theory but scores badly.
Almost always timing and presentation rather than knowledge. Two timed papers, marked strictly, will show it.
Is it worth starting tuition close to the boards?
For converting existing knowledge into marks, yes. For repairing a whole year, the honest answer is that it is late — and we would rather say so.
