SELF-PRACTICE — the source book printed no answer.

Nothing is invented here, so this question has no answer on record.

Explanation
Let the C.P. be ₹$x$. I. $\frac{(78-x)}{x}\times 100=2\times\frac{(69-x)}{x}\times 100 \Leftrightarrow 78-x=138-2x \Leftrightarrow x=60$. Thus, I only gives the answer. II. Let the C.P. be ₹$x$. Then, M.P. $=₹\left(\frac{120}{100}\times x\right)=₹\frac{6x}{5}$. ∴ S.P. $=90\%$ of ₹$\frac{6x}{5}=₹\left(\frac{6x}{5}\times\frac{90}{100}\right)=₹\frac{27x}{25}$. Thus, $108\%$ of $x=\frac{27x}{25}$, which does not give $x$. ∴ II does not give the answer. ∴ Correct answer is (a).
