A patient in a hospital is given soup daily in a cylindrical bowl of diameter 7 cm . If the bowl is filled with soup to a height of 4 cm. How much soup the hospital has to prepare daily to serve 250 patients?
(a)38L
(b)40L
(c)39.5L
(d)35.5L
Answer
Answer (as printed): D
Explanation
Diameter of bowl $=7 \mathrm{cm}$ ∴ Radius of bowl $=\frac{2}{7} \mathrm{cm}$. Height $=4 \mathrm{cm}$ ∴ Volume of cylindrical bowl $=\pi r^{2} h$ $$=\frac{22}{7} \times \frac{7}{2} \times \frac{7}{2} \times 4=154 \mathrm{cu} . \mathrm{cm}$$ Hence, volume of soup for 250 patients $=154 \times 250$ $$=38500 \mathrm{cm}^{3}=38.5 \mathrm{L} .$$
