The Directorate General Resettlement is an inter-services organisation under the Ministry of Defence responsible for the resettlement and welfare of Ex-Servicemen, war widows and their dependents. It runs skill-upgradation training, facilitates re-employment in Government, quasi-Government, PSU and corporate-sector organisations through reserved ex-servicemen quota vacancies, empanels security agencies for ESM employment, and administers self-employment schemes. It is not itself an exam-conducting recruiter — it channels ex-servicemen into vacancies notified by other bodies.

DGR recruits mainly through a specific quota (for example sports, compassionate appointment, or ex-servicemen), or direct recruitment, without a competitive exam.
