The Transport Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh regulates motor vehicle registration, driving licences, permits and road-tax collection under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 across the state, separate from the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC, a public bus operator) and the Urban Transport Directorate. Gazetted Motor Vehicle Inspector and Regional Transport Officer posts are recruited through the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC), and non-gazetted enforcement staff through UPSSSC, both already listed elsewhere in this directory.
