The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) is the state body responsible for direct recruitment and departmental promotion of UP Police personnel below the rank of Deputy Superintendent, including Constable, Head Constable and Sub-Inspector across the civil police, PAC and fire service. Recruitment normally proceeds through a written examination followed by a physical measurement/efficiency test, and in some cases a skill or document-verification stage, with vacancies notified as and when sanctioned by the state government. UPPRPB is headquartered in Lucknow and is distinct from UPPSC (which handles gazetted state civil service posts) and UPSSSC (general subordinate services outside the police).
