The Union Public Service Commission has notified the Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination, 2027 (Examination Notice No. 01/2027-GEOL) for a total of 127 tentative vacancies. Category-I covers posts in the Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines: Geologist Group A (29), Chemist Group A (7), Assistant Geologist Group B (34), Assistant Geophysicist Group B (35) and Assistant Chemist Group B (6), with no Geophysicist Group A vacancy notified this cycle. Category-II covers posts in the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Jal Shakti: Scientist 'B' (Hydrogeology), Scientist 'B' (Chemical) and Scientist 'B' (Geophysics) in Group A, and Assistant Hydrogeologist, Assistant Chemist and Assistant Geophysicist in Group B. Candidates must hold a relevant Master's degree (in Geology, Applied Geology, Geophysics, Chemistry, Hydrogeology or allied earth-science disciplines depending on the post) from a recognised university, and must be between 21 and 32 years of age as on 1 January 2027, with relaxation for reserved categories. The Preliminary Examination (two objective-type papers, with negative marking) will be held on 10 January 2027 at 21 centres across India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and other major cities. Candidates who qualify will proceed to the Main (descriptive) Examination on 19-20 June 2027, followed by a Personality Test/Interview. Selection to individual posts will be based on merit, category and preference among the participating services.
