Maths in the final month is about reliability, not coverage. The marks are in the questions you can already almost do.

In the last thirty days the highest-return work in maths is converting near-misses into certainties — questions the student can start but does not finish cleanly, and topics where the method is known but the execution slips. Learning a new chapter at this stage almost never pays as well as making three known chapters reliable.

The shape of the month
Days 1 to 10 — the near-misses
Identify from recent papers the questions that were attempted and not finished, or finished with errors. These are already most of the way to being marks. Calculus and vectors usually dominate this list.
Days 11 to 22 — papers, two a week
Full papers under time, marked strictly on steps. Every error into one log, sorted by type rather than by chapter.
Days 23 to 30 — the log, and speed
Work exclusively on the recurring errors, plus short daily mixed sets against a clock. No new material.
Sort the error log by type, not by chapter. Almost every student finds three or four faults repeating across every paper — a sign error in a particular manipulation, limits not changed on substitution, working compressed under time. Fixing four recurring faults lifts every paper; revising one more chapter lifts one question.
Step marks are the cheapest recovery
Students working under time compress their working, and a Class 12 maths answer that reaches the right value with steps missing does not score full. Writing the formula, the substitution and the intermediate line is a habit that can be re-installed in a fortnight and applies across the entire paper.
It is the single highest-yield change available in the last month for most students.
What to stop
- Untimed practice. It hides the problem that is actually costing marks.
- Reading solved examples. Recognition, not ability.
- Starting chapters never studied, unless they are both high-weight and genuinely near-miss.
- Switching methods. A method that mostly works, applied consistently, beats a better one learned in week three.
The realistic expectation
A well-aimed month produces a solid improvement, mostly by converting partial marks into full ones. It does not produce a transformation, and a plan that assumes one tends to be abandoned after the first disappointing practice paper — which will happen, and is normal.

Eight or so, marked and acted on. More than that and there is no time to act on any of them.
My child wants to start a chapter they skipped.
Only if it is high-weight and partly familiar. Otherwise the same hours on near-misses pay better.
Is speed practice worth it?
Yes — short daily timed sets build the pace that full papers reveal is missing.
Should tuition increase in the last month?
Slightly, and aimed at the error log rather than at teaching. More sessions with the same tutor beats adding a new one.
