A student strong in physics and weak in chemistry is almost always fine at physical chemistry — which is the numerical strand and closest to physics — and struggling in organic or inorganic. Why the pattern is readable
Physics rewards applying a small number of principles to unfamiliar situations, with calculation. Physical chemistry asks for almost exactly the same skills, so a student who does well at physics generally does well there.
