Assam Rifles, India's oldest paramilitary force and administered by the Ministry of Home Affairs under the operational control of the Army, guards the India-Myanmar border and North-East region. The Directorate General, Assam Rifles at Shillong conducts recruitment rallies for Rifleman (General Duty), Warrant Officer, Havildar Clerk and technical trade posts, sports-quota rallies for meritorious sportspersons, and periodic contractual hiring of General Duty Medical Officers.

Assam Rifles recruits mainly through a written competitive examination, or direct recruitment, without a competitive exam, or a specific quota (for example sports, compassionate appointment, or ex-servicemen). Posts recorded here are commonly classified as Group C/contractual.
