The Comptroller and Auditor General of India heads the Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IA&AD), the supreme audit institution auditing the accounts of the Union and State governments and public sector bodies. Its Group A officers (Indian Audit & Accounts Service) are recruited through UPSC's Civil Services Examination, while Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer posts are filled through candidates nominated by the Staff Selection Commission via the Combined Graduate Level Examination.
