(a)30\%
(b)35\%
(c)37.5\%
(d)None of these
Answer
Answer (as printed): C
Explanation
Let us consider a packet of rice marked 1 kg. Its actual weight is 80\% of 1000 gm = 800 gm. Let C.P. of each gm be ₹ 1. Then, C.P. of this packet $=₹ 800$. S.P. of this packet = 110\% of $$\begin{aligned} & \text { C.P. of } 1 \mathrm{kg}=₹\left(\frac{110}{100} \times 1000\right)=₹ 1100 . \\ & \therefore \text { Gain } \%=\left(\frac{300}{800} \times 100\right) \%=37.5 \% . \end{aligned}$$ Short cut Method: Using the formula, we have: $$\begin{aligned} \text { Gain } \% & =\left\{\left(\frac{x+y}{100-y}\right) \times 100\right\} \%=\left\{\left(\frac{10+20}{100-20}\right) \times 100\right\} \% \\ & =\left(\frac{30}{80} \times 100\right) \%=37.5 \% \end{aligned}$$
