A trader purchases a watch and a wall clock for ₹ 390. He sells them making a profit of 10\% on the watch and 15\% on the wall clock. He earns a profit of ₹ 51.50. The difference between the original prices of the wall clock and the watch is equal to

Explanation
Let C.P. of watch be ₹ $x$. Then, C.P. of wall clock $=₹(390-x)$. $$\begin{aligned} & \therefore(10 \% \text { of } x)+[15 \% \text { of }(390-x)]=51.50 \\ & \Rightarrow \frac{10}{100} \times x+\frac{15}{100} \times(390-x)=\frac{515}{10} \\ & \Rightarrow 10 x+5850-15 x=5150 \Rightarrow 5 x=700 \Rightarrow x=140 . \\ & \text { So, C.P. of watch }=₹ 140, \text { C.P. of wall clock }=₹ 250 . \end{aligned}$$ ∴ Required difference $=₹(250-140)=₹ 110$.
