The breadth of a rectangular field is 60\% of its length. If the perimeter of the field is 800 m , what is the area of the field?
(a)18750 sq. m
(b)37500 sq. m
(c)40000 sq. m
(d)48000 sq. m
Answer
Explanation
Let length $=x$ metres. Then, breadth $=\left(\frac{60}{100} x\right)$ metres $=\left(\frac{3 x}{5}\right)$ metres. Perimeter $=\left[2\left(x+\frac{3 x}{5}\right)\right] \mathrm{m}=\left(\frac{16 x}{5}\right) \mathrm{m}$. $\therefore \frac{16 x}{5}=800 \Leftrightarrow x=\left(\frac{800 \times 5}{16}\right)=250 \mathrm{m}$. So, length = 250 m; breadth = 150 m. ∴ Area $=(250 \times 150) \mathrm{m}^{2}=37500 \mathrm{m}^{2}$.
