The ratio of length and breadth of a rectangle is 3 : 2 respectively. The respective ratio of its perimeter and area is 5 : 9. What is the breadth of the rectangle in metres?
(a)6 m
(b)8 m
(c)9 m
(d)13 m
(e)None of these
Answer
Answer (as printed):
Explanation
Let the length and breadth of the rectangle be $3 x$ and $2 x$ respectively. Then, perimeter $=2(3 x+2 x)=10 x$. And, area $=(3 x \times 2 x)=6 x^{2}$. $\therefore \frac{10 x}{6 x^{2}}=\frac{5}{9} \Rightarrow 30 x=90 \Rightarrow x=3$. So, breadth $=(2 \times 3) \mathrm{m}=6 \mathrm{m}$.
