Subject: General Aptitude · Chapter: Area · Exam: 2005 · Marks: · Difficulty:
A circle and a rectangle have the same perimeter. The sides of the rectangle are 18 cm and 26 cm. What is the area of the circle?
(a)$88 \mathrm{cm}^{2}$
(b)$154 \mathrm{cm}^{2}$
(c)$1250 \mathrm{cm}^{2}$
(d)Cannot be determined
(e)None of these
Answer
Explanation
$2 \pi \mathrm{R}=2(l+b) \Leftrightarrow 2 \pi \mathrm{R}=2(26+18) \mathrm{cm}$ $$\Leftrightarrow R=\left(\frac{88}{2 \times 22} \times 7\right)=14 \mathrm{cm} .$$ ∴ Area of the circle $=\pi \mathrm{R}^{2}=\left(\frac{22}{7} \times 14 \times 14\right) \mathrm{cm}^{2}=616 \mathrm{cm}^{2}$.
