Vastu Shastra
The traditional Indian philosophy of orienting a home or workplace to light, air and direction. Set your entrance and rooms below to see how they sit against traditional preference.
How this page works
Vastu Shastra is the traditional Indian approach to orienting a home or workplace to light, air and direction. This page covers the eight directions and the Brahmasthan (centre), the Vastu Purusha Mandala, room-by-room placement, plot and building principles, and traditional non-structural remedies, in English and Hindi.
What you enter: the direction of your main entrance, or its exact compass bearing in degrees, then the rooms you want to check.
Worked example: a compass bearing of 50° lies in the north-east sector (22.5° to 67.5°), the Ishaan corner, which tradition keeps light and open and links with worship and water. The page sets each room you enter against the traditional preference for its direction.
Ishaan is named after the deity of the north-east: Ishana.
