The Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board (Basic Shiksha Parishad) conducts the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET), the state-level qualifying exam for teaching posts in Classes I to VIII in UP government and aided schools. UPTET is held roughly annually and is administered online through updeled.gov.in; qualifying does not by itself guarantee a job — subsequent recruitment for actual teacher vacancies is done separately by UPBEB/UPESSC.

UPTET recruits mainly through a written competitive examination. Posts recorded here are commonly classified as Group C.
