Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, founded in 1992, is a Miniratna subsidiary of Coal India Limited headquartered at Sambalpur, Odisha, and one of the country's largest producers of bituminous coal from the Ib Valley and Talcher coalfields. It recruits Management Trainees in mining and allied engineering disciplines mainly through Coal India's common trainee process, and fills non-executive posts such as Mining Sirdar, Overman and Surveyor through its own periodic written examinations, along with apprentices engaged under the NATS/NAPS scheme.

MCL recruits mainly through a candidate's score in a national test such as GATE or NET, or a written examination followed by an interview. Posts recorded here are commonly classified as Group A/C/apprentice.
