Class 5 is a bridge year. It is the last year where the workload is genuinely manageable and the last chance to close primary-stage gaps cheaply. From Class 6 the subjects separate, the pace increases, and anything still missing starts costing time the student no longer has.

What Class 5 needs to get right
- Decimals and fractions. The two topics that most reliably cause trouble later if left shaky. Class 6 assumes fluency in both.
- Word problems. Translating a sentence into an operation. Children who can do the arithmetic but freeze at word problems have a comprehension gap, not a maths gap, and it needs treating as such.
- Longer written answers. Class 5 is where one-word answers stop being acceptable and structured paragraphs start being expected.
- Independent working. Middle school assumes a child can read an instruction, start a task, and finish it without supervision. That is a skill, and it can be taught.
Preparing for the Class 6 jump
The change from Class 5 to Class 6 catches families out more often than the change into Class 9. Subjects split, more teachers are involved, homework arrives from several directions at once, and the child is expected to organise it. We spend the second half of Class 5 building that organisational capacity deliberately — keeping track of what is due, planning across a week — rather than only teaching content.
Class 5 is not a board year and should not feel like one. The aim is to arrive in Class 6 with no gaps and reasonable working habits, which is a calmer objective than chasing marks.
How sessions run
- A short diagnostic across the first sessions to find what is actually missing.
- Concept teaching, then supervised practice, so errors get caught as they happen.
- School homework supported but never done for the child.
- Regular feedback to the parent on what improved and what did not.
Questions parents ask
How many sessions a week does Class 5 need?
Two is usually enough where the child is broadly coping. Three where there is a real backlog to clear. More than that at this age rarely helps and often produces resistance.
My child is fine in Maths but weak in English. Can we do one subject?
Yes. Concentrating on the subject that actually needs help is usually better value than covering everything equally.
Is online tuition suitable for Class 5?
It can work at this age, particularly where scheduling is difficult, but we would suggest home tuition first. Ten-year-olds concentrate better with someone present.
What are Class 5 tuition fees in Dwarka?
They depend on frequency, session length and subjects. Call 9212142427 for a figure against your requirement.
