A copper sphere of diameter 18 cm is drawn into a wire of diameter 4 mm. Find the length of the wire.
Answer
Answer (as printed):
Explanation
Volume of sphere $=\left(\frac{4}{3} \pi \times 9 \times 9 \times 9\right) \mathrm{cm}^{3}=972 \pi \mathrm{cm}^{3}$. Volume of wire $=(\pi \times 0.2 \times 0.2 \times h) \mathrm{cm}^{3}$. $$\therefore 972 \pi=\pi \times \frac{2}{10} \times \frac{2}{10} \times h \Rightarrow h=(972 \times 5 \times 5) \mathrm{cm}=\left(\frac{972 \times 5 \times 5}{100}\right) \mathrm{m}=243 \mathrm{m} .$$
