The building blocks of Jyotish — generated from the same reference data our engine calculates with, so what you read here is exactly what your kundli uses.
How this page works
The knowledge hub explains the building blocks of Jyotish: the nine planets (Navagraha), the twelve houses, the twelve rashis, the 27 nakshatras with their lords and ganas, and the Vimshottari dasha. It is generated from the same reference data that the kundli engine calculates with, so what you read here is exactly what your chart uses.
What you enter: nothing — open any section and read. Each topic links to the calculator that uses it.
Worked example: the zodiac of 360° is divided into 27 nakshatras of 13°20′ each. The first, Ashwini, runs from 0° to 13°20′ of Aries; its lord is Ketu and its gana is Deva. Because the Vimshottari order starts with Ketu, a person whose Moon is in Ashwini begins life in Ketu dasha.
The deities behind the Navagraha have their own pages in the Hindu deities encyclopedia, for example Brihaspati.
Two more examples of the reference data: the twelve houses are counted from the lagna — the 1st for the self, the 7th for partnership, the 10th for work — and each rashi has a ruling planet: Mars rules Mesha and Vrishchika, Venus rules Vrishabha and Tula, Mercury rules Mithuna and Kanya, the Moon rules Karka, the Sun rules Simha, Jupiter rules Dhanu and Meena, and Saturn rules Makara and Kumbha.
